Onjoji Temple is the head temple of the Tendai Jimon sect, located in Onjojicho, Otsu City. The principal image is Miroku Bosatsu (Maitreya). The founder is Prince Otomo no Yota. It is famous for the Yellow Fudo, one of the three great Fudo statues of Japan, and the Kannon-do Hall is the 14th temple of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, with the principal image being Nyoirin Kannon Bosatsu (Cintamani-cakra Avalokiteśvara). It is also known for the "Evening Bell of Mii" which is one of the Eight Views of Omi. Generally, it is known as Mii-dera Temple. The following two items are provided: 1. Goshuin (temple stamp) for Daibiden Hall 2. Yuisyo-sho (historical document) Mii-dera Temple, which has a vast site on the hillside of Mt. Nagara in the southwest of Lake Biwa, is officially called "Nagato-san Onjoji Temple" and is the head temple of the Tendai Jimon sect. It was rebuilt as a separate temple of Tendai by the outstanding personality of the fifth Tendai Zasu (chief priest) of the Heian period, Chisho Daishi Enchin. Since then, in its history of over 1,200 years, it has encountered many legal difficulties, such as being burned down during the Genpei War and the Nanboku-cho War, but it has overcome these hardships, supported by the people who believed in Chisho Daishi, and is also known as the "Temple of the Phoenix."
