JIL SANDER, founded in 1968 by German-born Heidemarie Jiline Sander, a graduate of the Krefeld School in Germany who later worked as a fashion journalist for the University of California, USA, and a New York magazine, was originally a brand sold in her own boutique. At the time, the boutique mainly sold MUGLER and SONIA RYKIEL, but in contrast to the flamboyant clothing of the era, she continued to create minimalist and refined clothing with a focus on quality. As the image of a mannish woman fighting in society gained acceptance, her work began to be appreciated worldwide. While moving the venue for her collection presentations to Paris and Milan, she gained attention in 1998 with a collaboration sneaker with PUMA. In 1999, she was acquired by the PRADA group, and within that, she repeatedly resigned and returned as a designer due to conflicts with PRADA. From 2005 to 2012, RAF SIMONS served as the creative director, and from 2018 to 2025, the husband and wife team of Lucie and Luke Meier of OAMC took the helm, followed by Simone Bellotti, who gained experience at GUCCI. This is a BD shirt from the 04SS collection designed by Jil Sander herself after JIL SANDER was acquired by PRADA. Based on a military shirt, it features a hidden button-down design that appears to be a small, plain collar, reflecting her minimalist aesthetic. Despite the box silhouette without darts, it excels in craftsmanship, such as the beautiful gathering on the back yoke and the puckering on some parts of the sleeves. The fabric is also pique, which is rare for shirts, and the high-quality fabrics of Prada provide an overwhelming comfort and feel, making it a wonderful shirt. This is a valuable archive that was only produced for a short time, perfectly matching Jil's design sense with Prada's craftsmanship, materials, and quality. Due to its age as a vintage archive item, there is significant fading overall, and there is some staining on the underside of the collar.
