Design: Characterized by sharp fangs and wide-open eyes; real materials may be used for the fangs, and reflective materials for the eyes. Uses: Primarily hung on walls as a talisman or amulet to ward off evil. They are also used in traditional Japanese performing arts such as Noh, Kyogen, and Kagura. Other Names: Due to its shape, it is also known as a "Hannya mask," and in some regions, it is revered as a mask of the "Kamado-gami" (kitchen god).
