Length: 151 cm, Width: 23.5 cm (including mounting) ≪Tanzaku (Poem Card)≫ Height: 36 cm, Width: 6.3 cm 【Reading】 里の子が振り積む雪をまろはして　まろしと見るは夢かうつつか Sato no ko ga furi tsumu yuki o maro wa shite maroshi to miru wa yume ka utsutsu ka (A child in the village rolls up the falling snow, and seeing it round, is it a dream or reality?) ＊Furi tsumu... falling and accumulating; maro wa su... to roll; maroshi... round; yume ka utsutsu ka... a state where dreams and reality are unclear. A dreamy state. 【Interpretation】 A scene of a child in a village playing in the snow. The snowman is likened to the ensō, and this is seen as a state of selflessness, a state of enlightenment. The depiction of the ensō is not rigid, and perhaps it expresses the importance of drawing it with the heart. ▢ Daiko Sogen Born in 1772, died in 1860. The 435th chief priest of Daitoku-ji Temple. Became the chief priest of Daitoku-ji Temple in June 1820, and also became the 14th chief priest of Obai-in Temple and the 15th chief priest of Zentsu-in Temple (no longer extant). He was also deeply involved with tea ceremony families, and tea utensils with his inscriptions are often seen. He excelled in waka poetry and calligraphy, and many of his hanging scrolls are highly valued.
