Unlike the pioneers of New York and Eastern jazz, these are people who enjoy playing their favorite jazz together, chatting and having fun. This kind of music is also great. Shank's energy and Ray Brown's enjoyment are infectious. Speaking of Ray Brown, he was in Oscar Peterson's group, but also played with giants like Duke Ellington and MJQ. Furthermore, he was Ella Fitzgerald's husband. Listening to his bass playing, you'll think he's a master, and he is! (laughs) Ray Brown at this time was so gentle, as if the climate had taken over, and I loved it. I like it when introductions are included on live albums. (laughs) Captain Garo is an original by Almeida, and it has an easy-to-listen-to melody, typical of Almeida.
