Revered as Shinran Shonin, he is considered the founder of Jodo Shinshu, one of the Kamakura Buddhism sects. He revered Honen as his master and throughout his life, he inherited and further developed "the true teachings of salvation in the Pure Land revealed by Honen." It is thought that he had no intention of founding a sect himself. He did not have his own temples, but instead established simple Nenbutsu halls in various places to preach. Within this, the differences in doctrine as a sect became clear, and it was established as a religious sect after Shinran's death.
