Hon-zukuri byōbu (true-construction folding screens) are folding screens made using a traditional technique that has been passed down since the Edo period, in which Japanese paper is layered multiple times on a wooden lattice frame and connected with paper hinges (paper joints). They are lightweight and thin, with a seamless finish that prevents the scenery from being seen through the joints, giving them a clean and high-class feel.
