Argentina, 1976. Tom, a British English teacher who had lost hope in life, is assigned to a prestigious boarding school. Amidst a society in turmoil under a military regime and struggling with difficult students, Tom, along with a woman he met on a trip, rescues a dying penguin covered in oil. However, the woman quickly leaves him, and only the penguin remains with Tom. Even when he tries to return it to the sea, the penguin mysteriously returns to him. He names the penguin "Salvatore" and begins a strange cohabitation. Eventually, through his life with Salvatore, Tom rediscovers what is truly important in life. Steve Coogan of "The Lost King" plays Tom, and Jonathan Pryce of "The Two Popes" and "Brazil" plays the headmaster of the school where Tom is assigned. The screenplay is by Jeff Pope, who was nominated for an Academy Award for "Philomena."
