This is a three-tiered jubako (lacquered food container), but one of the corners of one tier is slightly coming apart (see image 3). You could discard this tier and use it as a two-tiered jubako. This item is new and unused, having been stored in a home warehouse for a long time. It was wrapped in paper, so the condition is clean with no scratches other than those in image 3. The overall material is natural wood, with the lid being lacquered and the box itself being urethane-coated. The entire piece is not lacquered; only the lid. Please note this. Perfect for osechi (New Year's dishes) or bento (lunch boxes). The kinma technique involves applying a base coat of lacquer, carving a design, and then filling the carved areas with colored lacquer.
