I have been using it as is, but you can see some rust, so I recommend replacing it eventually. *There are scratches on the glass from use. I tried hard to capture them in the images, but they may be difficult to see, so I recommend replacing it when you next change the battery. *The scratches are shallow and do not affect the visibility of the dial during use.
