He served as Prime Minister (45th, 48th, 49th, 50th, and 51st), Foreign Minister (73rd, 74th, 75th, 78th, and 79th), Minister of Agriculture and Forestry (5th), First Demobilization Minister (2nd), Second Demobilization Minister (2nd), a member of the House of Representatives (7 terms), a member of the House of Peers (Imperial Appointee), the first President of Kogakkan University, the 5th President of Nishogakusha University, the 2nd President of the Japan Liberal Party, the President of the Democratic Liberal Party, and the first President of the Liberal Party. After serving as Foreign Minister in the Higashikuninomiya Cabinet and the Shidehara Cabinet, he became Prime Minister, serving from May 22, 1946, to May 24, 1947, and from October 15, 1948, to December 10, 1954.
