This is a two-tiered tansu chest featuring the "Kiku Okiage" decorative technique, where layers of gofun (white pigment made from oyster shells) are applied to create a three-dimensional chrysanthemum pattern. As it is an antique, there are imperfections such as dirt and peeling on the gofun of the chrysanthemum petals, as well as minor scratches, chips, and insect damage on the wooden parts. However, these flaws are not significant enough to detract from the overall atmosphere of the tansu as a piece of its time. In addition to its function as a drawer chest, you can enjoy its elegant and noble atmosphere by using it as a display platform to showcase seasonal flowers and small items (see image 10, items other than the tansu are for photography purposes only).
