2003-04 Autumn/Winter Collection “Place / Non-place” This is Chalayan's second men's collection. The inspiration comes from aviation, travel, and airports. The item being introduced is a particularly valuable piece from this collection, rarely seen on the market. In an interview, Chalayan said, "This collection aimed to carry one's 'environment'." The vessel (clothing) protects, nurtures, clothes, and carries the wearer. We are constantly moving, creating temporary homes as we live. We are constantly being "displaced" (loss of place/home = rootlessness due to movement). An invitation to a secret event, known only to the buyer, is sewn into the garment. → Two members of the design team waited for buyers at the airport and handed them an item that perfectly fit into a specially designed pocket in the pants.
