I made a camisole by deconstructing an antique kimono. The original kimono was in beautiful condition, with no stains or damage. (Photos 13-17) After being unpicked, it was only sterilized with a high-temperature iron. The black fabric is patterned with large and small chrysanthemum-like motifs. The glossy gray patterns appear silver. I think it has a more glamorous atmosphere than the photos show. It's a sturdy fabric, but it feels very supple. The lining (hakkake) was also a lovely color of silk. (Photos 16, 17) To prevent the overall shape from appearing bulky, I used thin elastic only in the back yoke to create a clean silhouette. Silk kimonos are very precious. It's a lot of work to deconstruct a kimono, but it's wonderful to be able to enjoy the feel of Japanese fabric in everyday life. It's also a good point that you can enjoy the unique colors and combinations of Japan. I enjoy making Western clothes as a hobby, specializing in straight stitching. I remake old kimonos and furoshiki (wrapping cloths) such as tsumugi, meisen, and komon. Since it's handmade by an amateur, there may be thread holes, remaining threads, small scratches, and creases that cannot be removed by ironing.
