I heard that this was purchased for tea ceremony practice in a Japanese-style room before a tea room was built. It's a paper kama-shiki (pot mat) that was found during a cleanup, stored in the back of a shelf in the Japanese-style room. It appears to have never been used and has been stored for many years.
