This is a doukake (body covering) for a Tsugaru-jamisen, sized for a five-bu to six-bu size. It is a top-quality piece, featuring the red and black nanako-nuri, one of the four major techniques of Tsugaru lacquerware. Due to rising material costs and a shortage of artisans, the market price for genuine Tsugaru lacquerware has increased. Furthermore, the nanako-nuri technique can only be executed by a select few artisans, making this a rare and exceptional item. This item is in excellent condition, with minimal signs of use and no noticeable damage. Moreover, in recent years, Tsugaru-jamisen have been standardized to the five-bu size (excluding custom orders), and accordingly, doukake for the six-bu size are no longer produced, resulting in a very limited supply. This makes it a rare and valuable item. It fit my six-bu size instrument, but please understand that there may be variations in fit due to individual differences.
