The protagonist, Zatoichi, who has traveled throughout Honshu, crosses the Seto Inland Sea for the first time and goes to Shikoku. The screenplay is by Kaneto Shindo. Released in the summer (August), the "refreshing mood" that was not present in the early series is a new twist. Another topic is that director Kaneto Shindo, who is participating in the series for the first time, was in charge of the screenplay. The plot follows the familiar pattern, but it adds a new flavor to the series, starting with Ichi's escape from Honshu (?), and including underwater duels and action using spears and bows. Co-starring is Michiyo Yasuda, who was still known as Michiyo Okusu at the time. The director is Kazuo Ikehiro, who directed a total of three films in this series.
