The base is silver (see the 5th image for the engraving) and has a clean design. The combination of silver and deep crimson is outstanding. It's modern, beautiful, and looks wonderful. The photos don't quite capture it, but the actual item is in very beautiful condition. I haven't had a chance to use it, so I've kept it carefully stored. It's a January birthstone.
