HOSOO "Hosoo" was founded in Genroku 1 (1688) in Nishijin, Kyoto, after receiving the family name "Hosoo" from Hongan-ji Temple. Nishijin is the name of an area located in the old town of Kyoto, and the pre-dyed textiles produced in that area are called "Nishijin-ori" (Nishijin weaving). "Nishijin-ori" has been cultivated in the ancient capital of Kyoto for about 1200 years, supported by the aristocracy, the samurai class, and wealthy townspeople. Through a highly specialized division of labor, where each of the more than 20 processes required for completion is handled by a single craftsman, the pursuit of overwhelming beauty and the inheritance of unparalleled craftsmanship have been achieved. While accumulating history as a Nishijin weaving house, "Hosoo" aims to deepen and expand the possibilities of the world-renowned "Nishijin-ori" with its high technology and artistry, and also introduces traditional dyeing and weaving cultures from all over Japan as a kimono wholesaler, connecting kimono culture to the future.
