New shoulder straps are still stiff, so they seem to hurt when they rub against the shoulders. They also seem to slightly reduce the weight, and my child no longer dislikes the backpack. My child's school prohibits keychains, so it seems to be good for marking their own backpack. (It's a public elementary school. I also received permission to use the shoulder pads.) A cushion mat (as shown in the 5th photo) is placed between the 100% cotton fabric and the quilted fabric. After much trial and error, I created a clean design without using fasteners. Please use them by threading them through the loops.
