Eames Eiffel Base This is an Eiffel base for the Eames Shell Chair. It can be attached to Eames Shell Chairs and Armchairs. It can be attached to the Eames shell (seat), making it ideal for replacements. *This is the base only. (4 screws for attaching to the shell are included.) *It can be attached to current Eames DSW or DSR chair seats. It cannot be attached to vintage FRP seats from decades ago. Charles, who was enrolled in the architecture department at Washington University from 1925, opened his architectural office in St. Louis in 1930. In the same year, he won first prize with a plywood chair, jointly entered with Eero Saarinen, in the MoMA "Organic Interior Design Competition." During World War II, he advanced plywood technology through a project commissioned by the U.S. Navy to develop leg splints for wounded soldiers.
