This item is a handwritten, indigo-colored, limited edition Enma Daio (King of Hell) goshuin (temple stamp) from Shido-ji Temple, the 86th temple on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, which I visited yesterday. This temple in Sanuki Province has a long history and is associated with Kobo Daishi. It also houses the tombstone of Takamatsu Domain lord Chikamasa Ikoma, who lived from the late Momoyama period to the early Edo period, as well as the tomb of an ama (female diver) associated with the Fujiwara family, and a five-story pagoda.
