Thank you for viewing. This is a 60-strip black lacquered bamboo dou (chest protector). I received it from my former kendo instructor after he quit kendo, but it doesn't fit me, so I'm putting it up for sale. This is a bamboo dou that my instructor used when he was active, purchased from Mitsuboshi along with a full set of protective gear (reportedly costing over 1 million yen). He didn't use it very much. The dou-mune (chest piece) uses hand-rubbed black leather, making it neither too hard nor too soft, and extremely durable. The dou-dai (body) has no warping or creaking, and can be used for a long time. It has a classic design that isn't affected by trends, and the high-quality materials give it a dignified appearance. I think it can be used by a wide range of people, from young practitioners to senior high-ranking individuals. I have used it for a short period, and there are some scratches and minor chips from practice, and a barely noticeable mark on the inside of the dou where a name was written.
