The gold leaf originally served to prevent cracks and splits caused by drying. As this is a dried ink from several decades ago, the glue has softened, making it ready to use, and the brushstrokes are lighter. Especially for kana and gyosho (semi-cursive script), flow and speed are crucial. Ink with a smooth, flowing quality allows for sharp, crisp writing. It is ideal for the flowing, connected brushstrokes of kana. This ink produces a lustrous pure black when used in a concentrated form, and a slightly light brown shade when diluted. Being a very aged ink, it can be used for artwork regardless of whether it is kanji or kana. It is a great value at the list price of 9,450 yen (including tax).
