This is a board made from domestically produced "Mamezakura" (Prunus jamasakura), a prized Japanese hardwood. Mamezakura has a fine, elegant grain and is known for its beautiful, soft reddish hue. The surface has been finished with four coats of "fuki-urushi" (wiped lacquer), giving it a smooth luster and depth. The back side has been left untouched, allowing the thickness and unevenness (subtle irregularities) of the wood to be felt. This is an experimental processing method, so there may be individual differences in the finish. Please consider this unique texture and appreciate its character.
