Size: Approximately 17cm in height Fire Cover Material: Pure Silver "▼Takao Kato▼ Takao Kato (1917-2005) was fascinated by the novel colors, original forms, and glaze of ancient Persian pottery. After years of excavation research in West Asia, he began to restore the lost phantom lusterware, and successfully fused the high artistic culture of other ethnic groups with Japanese culture, including celadon, sancai, and Persian polychrome. In 1980, he was commissioned by the Imperial Household Agency Shosoin to reproduce the Shosoin Sancai, and after about 9 years of research, he delivered the "Sancai Kodou" and "Nisai Hachi." In recognition of his contributions to academic and artistic culture, he was designated as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) in 1995. Born on September 12, 1917, as the eldest son of the fifth Kohei Kato. 1961: Graduated from the Finnish School of Industrial Arts. 1963: Received the Tokusen Hokuto Award at the 6th Nitten Exhibition. 1973: Studied at the Asian Institute of the Pahlavi Royal University of Iran and participated in the excavation of ancient Persian pottery. 1980: Commissioned by the Imperial Household Agency to reproduce the Shosoin Sancai. 1983: Designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Gifu Prefecture. 1986: Solo exhibition at the Topkapi Palace Museum in Turkey. 1988: Received the Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon. 1992: Produced the "Togaru-gata Gosuiken" (pottery monkey-head inkstone) for Ise Jingu Shrine. 1995: Designated as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure). 1996: Received the title of Honorary Citizen of Gifu Prefecture. 2005: Passed away on January 11.
