This is a flat tray with plum blossoms carved into it, which I've been using at home for several decades since the Showa era. I believe it's called Nikko-bori (Nikko carving). It's been used for a long time, and there are many small scratches on the edges of the tray, which adds to its retro feel. It's perfectly usable.
