Even if you carefully use new pieces, they will still get dirty, and it's not easy to achieve the deep, flavorful Tsuga color, or the so-called amber color, overnight. This work, like the hori-ume (carved and filled) and moriage (raised) pieces of popular komashi (piece makers), has been polished and chamfered. The Hon-togi finish pieces are a customization that recreates the indescribable beautiful amber color of Tsuga, as if it has been worn and polished by years of use and hand oils. To prevent dirt and to give it a shine, it has been lightly wiped and polished with Ibota wax. I believe that using it for games and studying kifu (game records) will further deepen the amber color of the Tsuga.
