The inscription "共蓋蓋甲書きの指頭文" (Kyōbuta-gai kōgaki no shitōbun) likely means that the pattern was created with fingertips. If it were a pattern resembling fingertips, I can't quite imagine it. (lol) I feel its presence is somewhat like a snowman or a Jizo statue, and I'm curious to see how it will look with flowers arranged in it. There is a carved signature "保孝" (Hōkō) on the bottom.
