The key to a clean finish is to rub lightly. Abralon absorbs sanding debris and clogs, whereas sponge polishing pads do not absorb sanding debris, so they are more than twice as durable as Abralon. Since these are unprocessed, they will feel like they remove about two grit levels more than Abralon. Softening the pad will make it about one grit level finer and less likely to scratch.
