Delicate and beautiful carvings, with a raised relief of a tree trunk and fine vines winding around it. Honestly, it's at a "what the heck is this?" level. It's an amazing piece that I wouldn't want to carry around. I think there are few people who have seen a piece of this level. I haven't seen anything more amazing than this. This kind of craftsmanship can't be done with Japanese inkstones (there aren't stones that allow it). I don't know the artist, but considering the delicacy, care, skill, and knowledge of the inkstone making, I think they would be at the Living National Treasure level in Japan.
