He considered the university lectures to be "not worth paying for," and stopped attending English literature lectures at University College London. He received private tutoring from William Craig, a Shakespeare scholar who also appears in "The Eternal Day," and diligently studied "Literary Theory." However, his discomfort with English literature studies resurfaced, and he began to suffer from neurasthenia again.
