Hakata Doll - Morning Glory Showa Era Doll, Traditional Craft, Ceramic Doll Although the box and wrapping show their age, the doll itself is in relatively good condition. This is a cute doll of a girl with a lovely face, wearing a light pink morning glory patterned kimono. Height: Approximately 25cm Hakata dolls are made from unglazed clay. After firing, the dolls are dipped in a powder made from crushed seashells and then colored with paints used in Japanese painting. As each doll is made by hand, no two are exactly alike, and the dolls' rich expressions are said to be the best in the world. This is a retro doll with a cute face that I purchased in the 1970s.
