Visiting the Pont du Gard aqueduct in France's Gardon River for the first time in 23 years. Last time I only saw the bridge, but this time I had time to cross to the other side and take photos. It was built around 50 AD in the ancient Roman era, nearly 2000 years ago. I wonder how they transported and stacked these large stones without heavy machinery. The stones are connected using "tenon joints," which are used in wooden construction, and no mortar is used. Aqueducts remain throughout Europe, but there are few as large as this one. The bridge was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
