Purchased last year at the anniversary sale of BerBerJin Promenade. Also introduced on Instagram (17th photo). While reproductions and replicas have been abundant in recent years, this is a genuine piece that exudes an overwhelming aura. The main features are: ・Original white stencil remaining on the back ・Iwo Jima patch sewn on the chest Both are real pieces that make you feel the background of their use at the time. The USS IWO JIMA (LPH-2) patch was a US Navy amphibious assault ship commissioned in 1961, meaning it's a unit insignia of a ship that inherited the memory of Iwo Jima "immediately after and in the early post-war period" of World War II. It is thought that the N-1 from the war period continued to be used on the ship even after the war, and in the process, the official ship patch was sewn on, creating a "layered history" born in actual military operations, not a later custom. Also, the stencil on the back is likely from a Gunnery / Fire Control unit or squad, and it seems to have been designed for identification purposes. Personally, I've seen many N-1s with stencils, but this one is in a class of its own. I don't think this class of item will come up for sale very often. The fabric is the jungle cloth unique to the N-1. There is fading, scuffing, and soiling, but everything is established as "history" rather than "damage." The boa appears to be original and remains intact without being overly crushed. This N-1 with these conditions is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
