This is a Hotei figure I purchased at an antique market about 20 years ago. I was fond of his charming face and brought him home. He's leaning on his bag, and it's calming to look at. It's carved from a light wood. It is said that Hotei's bag contains the gratitude and compassion of people. Because of his high virtue, Hotei is said to have merged with the Chinese belief in Maitreya Bodhisattva and become an incarnation of Maitreya Bodhisattva. In China and Taiwan, he is called Maitreya and is worshipped. There don't seem to be any major noticeable chips. Please check the images carefully for other details.
