This is an adjustable tailpiece from Wittner, a German company well-known for metronomes, music stands, and string instrument accessories. When tuning a string instrument, there are many times when you wish you could raise or lower the pitch just a little bit while turning the pegs. This tailpiece with built-in adjusters is one solution to that problem. It came on a new viola, so it appears to have been used very little and is in beautiful condition.
