This is a set of 5 candy dishes made with Tamamushi-nuri, a traditional craft of Miyagi Prefecture. During the Great East Japan Earthquake, most of the contents of the sideboard flew out, and glassware and pottery were almost completely destroyed. I thought the lacquerware was safe, but upon closer inspection for this listing, I found a small scratch (photo 5). There are also some scratches that appear to have been made during polishing. The photos show close-ups of the scratches, so they may look worse than they are; in natural light, they look like photos 1 and 4. Overall, the iridescent luster of the Tamamushi color is very beautiful, which offsets the imperfections. The size is 15cm in diameter.
