The material used is Miyama-sugi, over 300 years old, which was protected at Ise Jingu Shrine. It is a valuable, rare wood that is not usually cut and sold unless it falls due to a typhoon or withers, potentially causing injury to visitors. It doesn't use pins (thumbtacks), so it doesn't make holes in the wall, and it won't damage the wallpaper when removed.
