This is a large, 9-sun (approximately 27.5 cm) diameter kama (tea kettle) with a richly textured design featuring grooves across its entire surface. It is a "tamono-gama" (a kettle modeled after something else), like a Fuji-gama or Shippo-gama, with paulownia crest-like patterns arranged and embossed on the shoulder and bottom. Based on the shape and arrangement of the patterns, it is likely a "koma" (spinning top) design. The kanazuke (handle attachments) are sturdy and wide, also likely modeled after paulownia crests. Made of Japanese iron (wasen) with a good quality of metal and a beautiful aged appearance. Large kamas with such excellent metal and design were common up to the early Edo period, and in my opinion, this kama is one of them. This is a traditional Japanese wasen kama that can be used for a long time. How about using it for your first tea ceremony of the year or for a special tea gathering? There were no leaks within the normal range of use (filling with room temperature water and boiling). The lid fits well, but it is probably a replacement lid. ○ Dimensions (approximate, as measured by an amateur) Body diameter: Approximately 27.5 cm, Mouth diameter: Approximately 10.5 cm (including the rim) ★ This item was collected and stored privately, so there is some deterioration, scratches, and rust due to aging. Please examine the photos carefully and make your judgment. ★ No additional appraisals have been conducted.
