Horaku-yaki is a type of soft pottery made in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture from the late Edo period to the Taisho period, and it was a local pottery that was passed down for eight generations from the first generation Kato Toshitaka. Its characteristics are the paintings of plants, flowers, trees, and stones with green glaze, and especially the "Kigu-utsushi" (imitating wooden tools) devised by the fourth generation Toyosuke, which applied lacquer and maki-e to the pottery to make it look like lacquerware, is famous, and it was mainly used for tea ceremony utensils (earthenware brazier, mizusashi, natsume, tea bowls, etc.). Although it has now ceased to exist, its techniques and designs are still highly regarded as antique art objects.
