This is a cute hagoita (decorative paddle) finished with colorful chirimen-zaiku (crepe fabric crafts) oshi-e (pressed picture) techniques. It has a soft texture and a gentle, fancy atmosphere♪ It's adorned with gorgeous and auspicious flowers. Hagoita are believed to ward off evil spirits by hitting the hane (shuttlecock) at the beginning of the year, and are associated with wishes for good health, protection from evil, and warding off bad luck. The shape, which widens towards the bottom, is considered auspicious, and they have come to be displayed from a girl's first New Year's celebration through the Doll's Festival (Hinamatsuri). This item is new, but it has been stored in a box in a warehouse for several years.
