This is a Kutani vase purchased from a shop specializing in European antiques. It is said to be a piece that was returned from overseas around the Meiji era. I was drawn to the atmosphere of the copper repair and the red painting, so I brought it home. The scene depicts figures in kimono strolling through a landscape with flowers. A child is by their side. Perhaps they were what we'd call "mom friends" today. They are strolling through a magnificent garden. The neck has been carefully repaired with copper plating. There are dents and cracks on the copper plate. There are no major chips or other damage besides the neck. There are fine scratches and wear commensurate with its age.
