This cube-shaped vase, designed to resemble a flowerpot, playfully mimics a displaced saucer. (It is not a real flowerpot, so there is no drainage hole.) The bottom is stamped with the character "久" (Hisashi), the mark of Bizen-yaki artist Hisashi Otomo. It has been used with a kenzan (flower frog), and there are signs of use on the inside of the bottom. (As I received it as a gift, I'm unsure if the roughness was present from the beginning.) In any case, it does not affect its use or appearance from the outside, and I believe it can be used for a long time without any problems. The kenzan that was used with it also shows signs of use, but I will include it as a bonus, so you can start arranging flowers right away. When you arrange cut flowers in it, it looks as if flowers are blooming from a flowerpot. How about displaying it in your entryway or alcove? Among Hisashi Otomo's many works, this is a witty and rare item. It's a beautiful piece, but due to a move to a smaller home, I no longer have space for it, so I'm reluctantly letting it go. I hope it will find a home with someone who will cherish it.
