This ticket is a reproduction, made on September 22, 1973, at the JNR Tokyo Printing Office, of a ticket from the time when the railway first opened in Japan in 1873 (Meiji 5). It is printed with "Second Class," but at the time there were three classes: first, second, and third. First class tickets were white, second class were blue, and third class were light red.
