It is made of kanshitsu (dry lacquer) and is in excellent condition with no damage. ※ Height: Approximately 48cm ※ Comes with a matching box ⚫︎ Dojoji Temple The Anchin and Kiyohime legend is famous in Noh and Kabuki. Dojoji Temple is the setting for this legend. Dojoji Temple was founded in 701 AD by order of Emperor Monmu, and houses numerous important cultural properties, including the National Treasure, the Thousand-Armed Kannon Bodhisattva, the Nikko Bosatsu, and the Gakko Bosatsu. ⚫︎ Dojoji "Anchin and Kiyohime Legend" The Anchin and Kiyohime legend is a tale of the tragic love and passion of the protagonists, originating from Dojoji Temple in Kii Province (Wakayama Prefecture). The original stories, found in the Heian period "Dai Nihon Kokuhoukenki" and "Konjaku Monogatari-shū," only mention a monk on a pilgrimage to Kumano and a widow at an inn, without mentioning their names. ⚫︎ Noh and Kabuki "The Tragic Love Story of Anchin and Kiyohime" The tragic love story of Anchin and Kiyohime takes place in the 6th year of the Encho era, 230 years after the temple's founding. Kiyohime falls in love with the monk Anchin, who seeks lodging for the night during his pilgrimage. Upon learning of his betrayal, she transforms into a giant snake and pursues Anchin, ultimately burning him to death inside the bell of Dojoji Temple.
