He is known as an artist who pursued the purity of art, with a posthumous exhibition held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth. According to the website of the National Shodo Purchase Center, he is classified as a calligrapher. On a personal note, Mr. Hirakawa has passed away, but he was actually my father's great-uncle. My parents' home is filled with Mr. Hirakawa's works, from shikishi (square cardboard for calligraphy) to large hanging scrolls. This calligraphy was written by the teacher shortly before he passed away, when my father went to Tosu, Kyushu.
