Regarding boiling sterilization: Kouchan Desu products always undergo boiling sterilization. (In hot water at 50-65 degrees Celsius for 45 minutes to 2 hours to kill mold.) We do not sell driftwood that only appears clean on the surface. We believe that driftwood may contain insect eggs, mold, and dangerous bacteria. After boiling sterilization, we perform slow submersion tannin removal treatment in fresh water. Driftwood that has only been washed is dangerous⚠️ About Tannins: For those who think tannins = "bad juice," Even with thorough processing, some tannins will still leach out. This does not pose a problem for living organisms. In fact, many organisms prefer tannin-rich "brown water." All finished driftwood is stored indoors. We pay attention to ventilation and humidity. We have never had any problems with mold or insect infestations. Immediate submersion use type: Regarding driftwood submersion: While the driftwood is fully submerged during processing, it is sold completely dry, so it will not submerge immediately. If you would like to know the approximate number of days until it sinks, or tips for submersion, please leave a comment. (We use a pH meter as a guideline for tannin removal completion.) After confirming neutral to slightly alkaline, 7-8 pH. Finished and sun-dried for sale. We take approximately 60 days to finish and list the products.
