I love fishing and became obsessed with making Japanese fishing rods, learning from a rod maker. The feeling of catching a fish with a rod I made myself is something I can't experience with modern rods. Nowadays, I can't go fishing much due to my age, and I'm thinking of disposing of the bamboo I've collected over the years. There are no "shinokotake" (one-year-old bamboo) in Japanese fishing rods; all are treated by oil removal and fire tempering. I'm hoping to sell them at various places. The price difference for rods of the same length is determined by the nodes and the arrangement of the nodes, in other words, by the straightness of the bamboo.
