Natural whetstone, Kyoto origin, mountain unknown, finishing whetstone. I flattened a very old whetstone myself. Although it's a finishing whetstone, it gives the impression of being good for the step just before the final one. For home use, this will be sufficient for finishing. It produces mud easily and is easy to sharpen with. It gives the impression of a slightly cloudy finish. There are variations in thickness, so please adjust with a whetstone base or similar when sharpening. There are layer cracks and chips, so areas other than the sharpening surface have been treated with cashew lacquer. As it is a natural product, there may be streaks or dragging that were not apparent during my test sharpening. Please consider this as well when considering a purchase.
